Thomas J. Moran
Thomas J. Moran is chairman of Mutual of America, a position he has held since 2005, and previously served as president and CEO of Mutual from 1994 to 2016. During more than four decades with Mutual, Tom participated in the company’s growth from a small retirement association to a life insurance company with over $20 billion in assets.
He is an active member of the board of Concern Worldwide U.S. and Concern in Ireland and has traveled with the organization to many of the poorest countries in the world to visit the its programs that aid the most vulnerable people in those countries. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the National University of Ireland and an Honorary Doctor of Science in economics from Queens University Belfast, where he also serves as chancellor. This year, he received an honorary degree in humane letters from his alma mater, Manhattan College, and delivered the annual undergraduate commencement speech.
With roots in counties Fermanagh and Tipperary, he is well known in Ireland and the Irish-American community and currently lives in New York with his wife, Joan.
