Shorla Oncology

Sharon Cunningham is CEO, Co-Founder, and board member of Shorla Oncology, a pharmaceutical company headquartered in Ireland with an office in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The company has developed and commercialized a portfolio of oncology drugs focusing on women’s and children’s cancers.

In 2015, Sharon graduated from University College Dublin Smurfit School with an MBA, and in January 2018, she co-founded Shorla Oncology with Orlaith Ryan.

A Chartered Accountant by profession, Sharon graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Finance from University College Cork, she trained with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Ireland and New York.

The many awards Sharon has earned include Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur in 2019, the Worldwide Association of MBA’s Best Entrepreneurial Venture Award in 2020, and the Irish Tatler Women of the Year Business Award in 2023.

Prior to Shorla, Sharon led the finance function at EirGen Pharma (acquired by OPKO Health Inc.). Sharon is a current board member of MassBio and the Young President’s Organization (‘YPO’) Healthcare Business Network.

She was born and raised in a coastal rural village in Co. Waterford and is married to Stephen. They have three hurling-obsessed sons; Rónan, 12, Oisín, 10. and Tadhg, 8.
