Sean Granahan
The Floating Hospital
Sean is a regulatory and corporate attorney by trade, and he has worked in businesses and in global law firms, where he developed both an expertise and a passion for healthcare policy and operations.
Sean left Epstein Becker & Green in the spring of 2003 to become The Floating Hospital’s general counsel and took over as president in 2005 growing the organization ten-fold to become the largest provider of healthcare to families living in homeless shelters and domestic violence safe houses.
The Floating Hospital manages healthcare within a framework of relief, providing food, clothing, and hygiene products as well as sustainable solutions to poverty, such as health education and life-skills training. It maintains its status as a charity and provides care regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
Sean enjoys giving talks to various groups about the rich history of Irish immigration and the founding of the hospital, which is documented in its incredible archive of thousands of photographs. Sean was the keynote speaker for the 2023 Irish America Business 100.
A graduate of the University of Scranton (Communications) and the Quinnipiac School of Law, Sean credits his drive to help others to his time at both Jesuit and monastery schools while growing up in Pennsylvania.
Sean’s paternal great-grandfather emigrated to the U.S. in the 1890s from Cool-Na-Binna (Crossmolina), County Mayo, where the family still resides.
