Peter King
Congressman Peter King (R-NY) is currently serving his third consecutive term in the U.S. House of Representatives. A staunch friend of ireland in Congress, he was first elected to represent New York’s Third District in Nassau County on Long Island in 1992.
Congressman King serves on the Committee on International Relations and is co-chairman of the Congressional Ad Hoc Committee for Irish Affairs. He also serves on the Committee on Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs.
In Irish America, King has long been recognized as an outspoken advocate for human rights and justice in Northern Ireland. He has site the six counties on many occasions, and accompanied President Clinton on his trip in 1995.
King was elected the Grand Marshal of the New York St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 1985, and has been honored by organizations such as the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Irish National Caucus and the Irish Northern Aid Committee. A graduate of St. Francis College in Brooklyn, the former attorney earned his law degree at Notre Dame. He traces his Irish ancestors to Counties Limerick and Galway, and said he remembers vividly his relatives speaking Gaelic. He now speaks to his Irish family at least every two weeks.
Congressman King and wife, Rosemary, have two children, Sean and Erin.
