Michael Ryan is executive vice president and general counsel of the American Stock Exchange. He is responsible for all aspects of the legal function at the American Stock Exchange and focuses on day-to-day operations, including business, operational, regulatory and membership. Ryan is also part of the Office of the Chairman, working directly with Chairman and CEO Sal Sodano and President Peter Quick on the long-term strategic focus of the American Stock Exchange’s three business lines. Ryan serves on the Board of Directors of the Options Clearing Corporation and the Children’s Neurobiological Solutions Foundation.

He earned his BS in accountancy from Villanova University in 1985 and his JD from the Catholic University School of Law in 1991. Ryan is a member of the bar in Maryland and a certified public accountant.

A second-generation Irish American, his father’s family has roots in County Tipperary. He lives with his wife and two children in Ridgewood, New Jersey. His personal quote is, “Anything worth doing is worth doing right the first time.”
