Mary Sugrue
Irish American Partnership
Mary Sugrue is the President and CEO of the Irish American Partnership, an organization to which she has dedicated over 35 years of service. Joining the Partnership two years after its inception, she has taken on various roles, each one contributing to the organization’s growth and helping shape its mission.
Appointed CEO in 2016, Mary has overseen a period of remarkable growth while maintaining the Partnership’s grassroots nature. During her tenure, the Partnership has raised over $57 million to support educational initiatives across the island of Ireland. With a belief that strong relationships are key to fostering trust, Mary has ensured the organization’s impact remains embedded in local communities. This leadership has expanded educational support at all levels across Ireland, from early childhood programs to university scholarships and vocational training.
Passionate about connecting people back to their ancestral home, Mary has also introduced Partnership events across the United States that celebrate Irish culture and strengthen ties to Ireland.
Originally from Cahersiveen, County Kerry, she earned a degree in education from the National University of Ireland, Carysfort College Dublin, before moving to Boston. Mary is the proud mother of two children, Eileen and Liam McAleer. “My story is a transatlantic one for sure, rooted in two countries I am privileged to call home.”
