An American field hockey player, Katie O’Donnell not only is an attacker for the No. 1 ranked University of Maryland, she is also the youngest member of the United States National team. On October 14, 2010, O’Donnell was voted Sportswoman of the Year, Team Sport by the Women’s Sports Foundation. Among O’Donnell’s career highlights, she is a two-time National Offensive MVP, a three-time ACC Offensive Player of the year and the 2007 National Rookie of the Year (Women’s Field Hockey). Her 208 career points makes her Maryland’s career points leader and she is third on Maryland’s career goals list with 67. O’Donnell led her Maryland field hockey team to a 2010 NCAA National Championship and won the 2011 Honda Sports Award in field hockey, designating her the top collegiate female athlete in that sport. O’Donnell is currently in California to begin training with her national team for the 2012 Olympics.

Kathleen Laura O’Donnell was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania to Kathy and Buddy O’Donnell. She has an older brother, Joey, who played lacrosse at St. Joseph’s University and she also has two older twin sisters, Kelly and Jenny, who were field hockey players at Drexel University.

The Katie O’Donnell Scholarship Fund was introduced by the Wissahickon Parent-Teacher Council. The scholarship will honor a graduating senior who embodies the same competitive spirit and academic and athletic leadership as O’Donnell.
