As President and CEO of the Fitzpatrick Hotel Group, North America, John Fitzpatrick is at the helm of the only Irish-owned and managed properties in New York. For over two decades, he has overseen the operation of two iconic hotels in New York City, The Fitzpatrick Manhattan and The Fitzpatrick Grand Central, which have become known for their uniquely warm and inviting brand of Irish hospitality.
In 2014, John was appointed Chairman of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, which represents more than 52,000 member hotels across the United States, encompassing over 4.5 million guest rooms and generating $137 billion in sales. That same year, he was named Chairman of The American Ireland Fund, a role in which he served two terms until concluding in 2019. He remains an active AIF board member today.
In 2008, Queen Elizabeth Awarded John with an honorary OBE for his contributions to the peace in Northern Ireland. In 2011, he received an Honorary Doctorate from Queen’s University, Belfast, and in 2013, he received an Honorary Doctorate from Dublin City University. In 2022, he became the Chairman of the Queen’s University Foundation. Most recently, in November 2024, John was presented with the Distinction in the Mérite Culturel of the Principality of Monaco, a prestigious honor to be bestowed by SAR la Princesse de Hanovre.
John is also deeply committed to philanthropic work, particularly supporting children in need and advancing the peace process in Northern Ireland. Over 25 years ago, he established the Eithne and Paddy Fitzpatrick Memorial Foundation in memory of his late parents. The foundation has raised over $5 million for a variety of charitable causes, including Barretstown Gang Camp in County Kildare, the Corrymeela Reconciliation Centre in County Antrim, the O’Hanlon Park Boxing Club in Dundalk, and the Integrated Education Fund – all of which have been funded through The American Ireland Fund.
In his personal time, John is an avid aviator, flying both helicopters and airplanes. He also enjoys water sports, snowboarding, skiing, kitesurfing, and golf.
