Gary S. Horan
A governor of the American College of Health Care Executives, Horan has held several positions with a number of institutions during his 25 years in the health-care field. Immediately prior to joining Our Lady of Mercy, he served as Vice President of Hospitals Operations at the New York University Medical Center. In this capacity he served as the chief administrative officer of NYU’s teaching hospitals, including the Tisch Hospital, the University Hospital of NYU, and the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine.
He also served as executive vice-president of St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Richmond, Staten Island, senior vice-president of St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center of New York, and assistant executive of John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey.
Horan received his degree in Economics from St. Peter’s College in Jersey City, New Jersey, and his MA in Health Care Administration from the George Washington University School of Government and Business. He served his administrative residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
Throughout his career Horan received recognition for his service to the health care field and the community. Among these awards are the Metropolitan Health Administrators’ Association’s 1991 Award of Distinction, the Elks Bronx Citizen of the Year, the Bronx YMCA’s Lifetime Achievement Award and the Boy Scouts of America’s Good Scout Award. He has been chosen by our magazine as one of the top Irish-Americans in Business for 1995 and 1996. He has been profiled in several publications, including Troika Magazine, New York Newsday and Women’s News. In addition, he has held a faculty position at the New School for Social Research Graduate Program in Health and Urban Professions.
