Brendan McDonagh
Brendan McDonagh is chief executive officer of HSBC – North America Holdings Inc. Appointed CEO in February 2008, he is responsible for the group’s banking and consumer finance operations in the US and Canada. In 2008 Brendan also became group managing director for HSBC Holdings plc, and is a member of the HSBC Group Management Board. He joined HSBC in 1979 as an international manager and held a series of senior executive positions before becoming CEO.
Brendan was born and raised in Dublin and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Trinity College. He is past chairman of the Consumer Bankers Association, a member of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago, and a member of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.
Brendan is active in several USA/Ireland organizations, including the New York Regional Board of the American Ireland Fund and the USA Board of Co-operation Ireland. He resides in the Chicago area with his wife Kenane and their two children.
