Arthur Ryan
After 14 years as Chairman and CEO of Prudential Financial, Inc., one of the largest diversified financial institutions in the world, Arthur F. Ryan is retiring. When Ryan took the position in 1994, he became the first Chairman and CEO in the company’s history to be elected from outside the company.
Prior to joining Prudential Financial, Ryan was President and COO of Chase Manhattan Bank. Ryan was named chairman of the American Council of Life Insurers in October 2003. He is alsoco-chair of the New Jersey PerformingArts Center.
Ryan is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the board of trustees of New York Presbyterian Hospital, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He serves as co-chair of the board of Achieve, Inc., an organization created by U.S. governors and business leaders to promote high academic standards for public schools in the U.S.
Ryan, who graduated from Providence College with a degree in mathematics, is a second-generation Irish-American whose family hails from County Tipperary. He is married with four children.
