Ireland assistant coach John O’Shea has stated that he knows clubs around England are looking at potentially signing Caoimhín Kelleher.
Kelleher’s stock has risen again after a spell in the Liverpool goals, but the speculation around his future has never gone away. Clubs like Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Brentford have all been linked with the Cork native in the past, but a move has never happened.
It does seem likely that this will be the Ireland keeper’s last season at Liverpool, and he will finally be plying his trade elsewhere. O’Shea believes that Kelleher will be useful for a team in Europe next year.
“He is unflappable. He’s a great character, and he is everything you want from your goalkeeper,” said O’Shea on Premier Sports before the Newcastle and Liverpool game.
“If I were playing in front of Caoimhín—he’s just calm and relaxed; he just oozes confidence every time, and it’s brilliant that he has just shown that consistency again. I think he is going to have lots of teams all around Europe looking for him, and I’m sure they will be knocking down the doors very soon.”
When pushed about having potential conversations in the Ireland camp regarding the move, the Waterford native said that Kelleher was fully capable of making the decision himself.
“He is more than capable of taking that decision himself, and I know for a fact there will be lots more teams looking at him because I just think he is a number one top European goalkeeper. He needs to be number one now, and he knows that, and I think Liverpool won’t be able to stop him. It could be London; it could be Newcastle; you never know.”
Liverpool plays Everton this weekend at 12:30 PM.
