League of Ireland side Bohemians have partnered with Irish post-punk band Fontaines D.C. to raise money for Palestine. The band will appear as a sponsor on Bohemians’ third kit to support Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP).
Profits from sales will go to MAP’s emergency response efforts in Gaza and Lebanon.
Maddie Powell, a MAP representative, said funds from the jersey will go towards lifesaving care in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon.
“MAP works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. We provide immediate medical aid to those in great need while also developing local capacity and skills to ensure the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system.
“The money raised by this very special shirt by Bohemian FC and Fontaines D.C. will go towards providing lifesaving care in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon,” she continued. “We are incredibly grateful for their support and the difference this will make. This further action builds on the brilliant work of the club in playing the Palestinian National Team in Dublin earlier this year, from which we also received a significant donation.”
The new alternative kit has been created by Fontaines D.C.’s guitarist, Carlos O’Connell, and the club’s designers. The light blue and pink colours pay homage to their award-winning 2024 album, Romance.
This isn’t the first time the Dublin club has used their shirts and platform to raise money for social issues. In 2020, the club teamed up with Amnesty International and the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland (MASI) for their away kit, emblazoned with the slogan ‘Refugees Welcome.’ In 2019, the club also partnered with Focus Ireland, the homeless charity, to highlight the housing crisis in Ireland.
O’Connell said after the kit release that the band supports the club because of their shared values: “There are few institutions in this world that stand strong and unyielding against oppression. Bohemian F.C. is one of them, and being a small part of this club has been an honour for us in Fontaines D.C. for a few years now. We will always stand with them and their values.”
The new shirt is available to order now at shop-bohemianfc.com and will be shipped from Monday, 9 December.
