COCAINE worth €2.8m has been seized at Dublin Port after being found concealed in a vehicle which arrived on a ferry from France.
Revenue officers made the discovery on Sunday, September 22 when they searched a vehicle that had disembarked a ferry from Cherbourg, France.
Their intelligence-led operation – in which they used a mobile X-ray scanner – saw officers find 40kgs of cocaine concealed in the floor cavity of the vehicle’s accompanying trailer.
A man in his 50s was arrested at the scene and is currently being held at a Garda Station in Dublin.
“This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs,” a Revenue spokesperson said.
“If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295,” they added.
