A TEENAGE boy has died following a collision in Co. Mayo involving a car and a pedestrian, one of three deaths on Ireland’s road this weekend.
The 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision, which occurred on the N17 at Barnacarroll, Claremorris at around 9.20pm on Saturday.
The incident happened close to where a mother and her two daughters died after their car was involved in a collision with a lorry on the N17 in Castlegar, outside Claremorris on Tuesday.
The boy’s body was taken to Mayo University Hospital, where a post mortem is due to take place.
The road was closed to allow for an examination by forensic collision investigators but has since reopened.
Gardaí have now appealed for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.
Road users who may have camera footage and were travelling on the N17 between Claremorris and Knock between 8.45pm and 9.30pm on Saturday are asked to make it available to gardaí.

Tipperary and Kildare incidents
Also this weekend, a woman in her 30s died in a two-car collision in Co. Tipperary, while a man in his 60s died following a collision between a car and a bicycle in Co. Kildare.
In the Co. Tipperary incident, the woman was a passenger in one of the cars when the collision occurred on the N24 at Kilsheelan at around 10pm on Friday.
The driver, aged in his 40s, as well as the driver and two passengers in the second car, all in their late teens, were taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

In the Co. Kildare incident, a male cyclist in his 60s was pronounced dead at the scene following a collision with a car at Knocknagee, close to Carlow Town, at around 11.20am today.
His body was taken to Naas General Hospital, where a post mortem is due to take place.
