In this award-winning documentary, An Gorta Mór: Passage to India, Ian Michael traces the journey of his ancestor John Footman from Clonakilty in 1847 aboard the Kent to Madras (now Chennai), in India. He travels back to his ancestral home and reflects on the meaning of Irish Indian identity today.

An Gorta Mór: Passage to India is part of the Great Famine Voices 2022 season hosted by the National Famine Museum, Strokestown Park, and the Irish Heritage Trust, with funding from the Government of Ireland Emigrant Support Programme.
The 2022 Great Famine Voices season has ended, but all of the films showcased this year can be viewed on the Strokestown Park website along with additional information about the museum, archives, and more.
