On Sunday, December 2, 500 Dubliners dressed as Santa Claus with Christmas lights took part in Ireland’s biggest Santa Cycle, now in its fourth year. After departing from the Phoenix Park, the Santas cycled through Dublin, past Our Lady’s Hospital in Crumlin, and finished in Clondalkin.
The event was arranged by the Laurels Charity Crew, who won the charity event of the year at the Irish Healthcare Awards in 2016. Since its inception 10 years ago, the Laurels Charity Crew had raised €930,000 for various charities, and this year put them over the €1 million mark.
The proceeds from the event went to the Straight Ahead project, a medical support group in association with the Children’s Medical Research Foundation (CMRF) Crumlin.
“It’s always such a lovely day full of enjoyment, with one common goal – to do whatever it takes to help some of Ireland’s sickest children!” said Damien Long, co-founder of the Laurels Charity Crew. There were also Santa Cycles in Limerick and Cork. ♦ Maggie Holland
