In March, Australian Irish Heritage Association commemorated the Catalpa rescue in a ceremony at Rockingham Beach’s Catalpa Memorial, outside of Perth. The Catalpa was a ship bought by Clan na Gael and John Devoy in New York that helped six Irish Fenian prisoners escape from imprisonment in Western Australia in 1876.
