One of the most anticipated new television series to debut this fall is Crime Scene Investigation (CSI): New York, the third installment in the highly successful CSI franchise. Up-and-coming Irish-American actor Eddie Cahill stars in the new show, playing Detective Don Flack, an NYPD officer.
Cahill told Irish America that his new job is “a dream come true.” The show boasts a talented ensemble cast including Gary Sinise and Melina Kanakaredes from the TV show Providence. Cahill has already worked alongside the most famous of all TV casts, the stars of Friends. He got his big break playing Rachel’s (Jennifer Aniston) co-worker and much-younger boyfriend Tag Jones. Of the experience, Cahill says, “It was a mixture of excitement, fear, and confusion to be sitting across the table from Lisa Kudrow and Jennifer Aniston.”
In addition to his work on CSI: NY, Cahill will also be appearing in the film Lords of Dogtown, due out in mid-2005. The film is a fictionalized account of a group of young surfers and skateboarders in the 1970s, The Z-Boys, who are raised in the streets of Dogtown in Venice, California. They pioneer extreme sports, becoming legends along the way.
Alongside his passion for acting is Cahill’s passion for Ireland. His paternal grandfather was born in Dublin and his interest in Ireland began when he was a little boy listening to Irish music and reading his father’s books on Ireland. Soon he began dreaming of visiting the land of his ancestors. And in the past few years he has been over to Ireland a number of times, most recently visiting for New Year’s Eve last year. One of his favorite places is the city of Derry.
CSI: NY premieres on CBS Wednesday, September 22 at 10 pm. ♦
