The Irish American Unity Conference will hold its annual convention in New York, October 17-19. The theme of this year’s convention, which marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of the organization, is “Good Friday Agreement — Is Democracy Possible — 5 Year Status Report.”
Texan James Delaney founded the IAUC in 1983 in Chicago as an effort to bring peace and justice to the entire island of Ireland. A statement from the IAUC cited that there is still much work to be done in that regard. “Over these twenty years, much has been accomplished and we know that our job is not yet complete. It will not be so until the entire island of Ireland has obtained the final peace with justice in a true democracy. We want this for the entire people of Ireland and in all 32 counties,” the statement read. ♦
