One of Ireland’s top hoteliers, Paddy Fitzpatrick, passed away on August 16. He was 72.
Fitzpatrick bought his first hotel, the Killiney Castle Hotel in Dublin, in 1971 and turned it into a success. Four years later, he purchased the Shannon Shamrock in Co. Clare, and took it from a money loser into a profit-making property within one year. The Fitzpatrick family owns the Silver Springs Hotel in Cork, and three properties in the U.S.
The U.S. hotels, two in New York and one in Chicago, are run by Paddy’s son, John.
Paddy Fitzpatrick is survived by his second wife, Nora, a daughter, Eithne, and sons, Paul, Patrick, Tony and John. He also has a stepson, David and seven grandchildren. his first wife, Eithne, mother of his five children, passed away several years ago. An annual Golf Tournament is held in her honor in New York each year, the proceeds from which go to charity. ♦
