For six weeks this fall, the Gate Theatre in Dublin will be barnstorming the U.S. with two acclaimed productions of Samuel Beckett’s plays Waiting for Godot and Krapp’s Last Tape. The tour will visit seven universities in the Midwest and West: University of Texas, University of Kansas, University of Iowa, University of Michigan, Ohio State University, University of California at Berkeley, and University of California at Los Angeles.
Conceived as part of the Gate Theatre’s Beckett Festival in Dublin in 1991, these productions have toured the world to rave reviews, including performances in New York, Chicago, Canada, London, and Australia.
Noted actors Barry McGovern and Johnny Murphy play Vladimir and Estragon in Waiting for Godot, and David Kelly once again plays Krapp, a role he originated in the first Irish production in 1959. ♦
